... with your reaction to another work like this one.

I also edited this one in a IPhone Apps, I have no skills to do that in a photo edit sw (neither wanted it!). It has texture over the photo.

In my opinion should be categorized as Photomanipulation instead of Photography, but it is what we see most here competing with pure photography.

This is a better choice of texture than the last - the folds and creases were too distracting, and if it weren't for the beautiful expression, it'd be another routine iphone manip. This could pass for decent post-work though. I like it.

I disagree with the characterization that it's a straight photo manipulation. Doesn't anyone remember fiddling in the darkroom with various gels and old stock? That's where these apps get their ideas from... you wouldn't want a whole gallery of this look, but throwing one in once in a while breaks up the flow and maintains interest in your body of work.

Just my nickle's worth. I'm just a graphics guy.

And I agree with you, about the diversity, but for me that is no longer photography.

Thanks for the input

And now I'm just curious - what would you categorize these? Perhaps "graphic representations?" I remember having to label such work some years ago as a "photo illustration," or "graphic representation" when it had ANY manipulation at all other than what was considered "normal" darkroom practices like dodge and burn.

Penso qie sim. É o que há mais por aí, e são tão fáceis de usar ... . Mas de facto, deixa de ser fotografia!

I prefer this one ..I understand your dilemma ...but are you saying that giving a photo say, a vintage look, is not pure photography ...I think manips are when the body is altered and backgrounds added..but then I am a bit stupid at times

I totally agree with you Lynda, and we see a lot of that here labeled as photography. But it's dificult to establish the boundaries

Yes, that it's effect, to seem like that. And it's beautiful. But in my opinion shouldn't be categorized as photography.

To be honest, I still think it's manipulation. But I like the result better with this then the earlier one :)

Yes, it's also my opinion.

My point with these two photos is to question if photomanips shouls be posted along with photography. It's unfair competition.

Thanks

Peter
